Big Bend

For over 2 years now Derek and Josh have been talking about going to Big Bend....well, we finally went! And I survived! I was a little overwhelmed about going...sleeping in a tent, bears, no showers on site, walking to the bathroom...you know...girl things! It was great! We hiked everyday, went on a day long canoe trip (I was so sore that night), hung out in Terlinga and just had a great time! The boys even made sure we took showers everyday!
Who knows where we'll end up next!

Home Alone
Derek went to Hammond this weekend and I was kind of upset to be home alone all weekend. Plus, he got to see my parents and I didn't. I knew I had to keep myself busy! Friday, I went to the Library conference in San Antonio with Carly and Angie...We met up with Sheri (our librarian) and had a great time despite the rain. The weather was terrible Friday and Saturday so I couldn't work outside or lay out, so I decided to do some things inside.....I started out going to Lowe's Friday night. I had some wood cut so I could make shelves for our shoes. While I was at Lowe's I saw these light fixtures on clearance and decided to go ahead and buy them....I guess I should have shown Derek first, but he did leave me home alone!!!
So Friday night, I made the shoe shelves and painted them.
Saturday morning I put them in the closet! Doesn't it look nice and organized! I even went through my shoes and got rid of the ones I haven't worn in over a year.
These are just my summer shoes...My winter shoes are in a bin...If we ever build a house, I want a closet like Oprah's!
So Saturday, I decided to install the light fixtures.....I've never done this before, but You Tube can teach you to do anything! I also read the instructions like 10 times before I attempted any of this....
This light use to be in our hall and it was gold and ugly...So I painted it with this special paint and put it in our closet.
We really didn't have a fixture above our table...now we have this!
This is in the entry....much better than the old one
I installed 2 of these- 1 in the laundry room and 1 in the hall!
I am quite proud of my home improvements! Just had to brag on myself a little! Not sure what I'll tackle next!

Happy St. Patrick's Day
I bought these glasses to wear to school and tried them on Petty. He poses for the camera! I took a full body shot of him so you can see how big he is- 80 pounds! He weighed 8pounds when we got him this time last year! Most Aussie's weigh 50 pounds as adults...ours is just a little bigger!

Yummy Tortilla Soup
This recipe is from one of our favorite resteraunts...I've made it twice in past 2 weeks! Love it!
Gristmill Chicken Tortilla Soup
Chicken Breasts
3 cans of chicken broth
1tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. cumin
1tsp. Garlic powder
1/4 tsp.pepper
1 can Rotel
Cilantro
Onion
I usually use 3 chicken breasts, two handfuls of fresh cilantro, and 1/2 to 3/4 of an onion (whatever you like). Sometimes I buy a rotisserie chicken from the grocery and use it instead of cooking chicken.
I also add a can of hominy (drained) to it.
Put in the crock pot and cook for about 3 hours.
I put tortilla chips in the bottom of the bowl and put cheese and avocado slices on top!

Over the weekend....
Over the weekend, my personal assistants and I painted! We worked all Friday night while Derek worked a high school playoff game and all day Saturday while he prepped for the Texas State game. They stand right next to me while I work and when I get the camera out, they sit and pose. It's hilarious! Saturday morning, I made a loaf of Lemon Poppy Seed bread for breakfast! Kennon called and I was talking to him in the bedroom and when I came back, Petty had helped himself to the bread- more than half the loaf. He can get anything off the counters.
